Installiation art

Lidó Rico (the artist’s surnames, by which he is known professionally) was born in 1968 in Yecla (Murcia), where he lives and has his studio and workshop. He graduated in Fine Art from the San Carlos Faculty of Fine Art in Valencia in 1991, with supplementary study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux- Arts in Paris in 1990. From the beginning of his professional career to the present he has had more than a hundred solo exhibitions all over the world and has been present at many fairs and biennials. His work can be found in museums, institutions and public and private collections/Juan García Sandoval Art critic and museologist.

He is one of the central figures in contemporary art currently investigating the body as a place of conflict; he uses his own body as a tool and as one of the elements of his work. In his creative process, Lidó literally immerses his body in various materials to obtain a mould for the pieces which he then translates into polyester resin or paraffin wax, among other substances; he has positioned his production within a horizon in which the performative and the sculptural are an essential part of his work.

The approach of this proposal is inspired by the fight to recover a trust lost due to the circumstances of a pandemic that has radically modified the way we understand interaction with others, inexorably affecting our entire existence. Today more than ever, we need images that heal, that encourage and dialogue with our most synergetic and spiritual part.

The thought remains in history recovering with time a new life, interpretation and meaning. The symbolism of angels has been present in every age and the representation of their image has been key to understanding and feeling their existence. Although they are invisible beings, man has always struggled to shape them and bring them to reality to visualize in them the light of his creation. Angels are beings devoid of matter but they are built and formulated in our memory full of light and energy, which are the only and most important reflection of divinity. It is precisely because of that need to feel hope through substance, to make that faith tangible, the origin and birth of a new series entitled «Sky Bakers.»

NOCTILUCOS

2006 – 2007

The artworks installiation is exposed to light, which turns on and off for a few seconds, so the photoluminescent resin glows when it is dark in the room and the bodies introduce you to a kind of magical dream

Lido Rico is one of the most recognized artists in Spain. He uses matter and his body, as a language, as a means of reflection in sculptural installations. To this he adapts his body, distinguishing the face as a form of creation. In this way, L. Rico develops concepts of body, space and the natures that arise between them. The main theme is the man. He is a center of sculpture, not of individualism, faces with masks or that support extreme stereotyped gestures.

THOUGHT DRYER/SECADERO DE PENSAMIENTOS

“Secadero de Pensamientos” is a work that reflects on the dream and the existence of man united to the power of memory. Hundreds of suspended heads tell us part of their existence through the collages that appear embedded in the glass spheres that stand out This work is a metaphor about the passage of time faced with the world of memories because it questions us through those inner visions, the most notable events that each person has had during their life, in this way it leads us to think memories and what happens to them when the body ceases to belong to us. And it is precisely at that moment in which bodies dry up that ideas take on all their meaning, relevance and prominence, because if something resides in the The importance of man is not in his skin or in his body since the passage of time is always in charge of erasing it, but in the foundation and strength of his ideas that are fundamental for the construction. ion of his memory.
